If you were a fan of 2004’s “Banlieue 13”, then “Banlieue 13: Ultimatum” is more of the same. It’s nothing close to being a brain teaser, and the film’s storyline is really just an excuse for stars David Belle and Cyril Raffaelli to show off their physical abilities. I could be wrong, but it seems as if Raffaelli has been practicing in the five years since the first movie, because he easily steals the show from Belle, who seemed to be leaps and bounds ahead of him when it came to the physical stunts in the first film. In fact, Belle mostly just runs around, through, and over people and things in the sequel, while Raffaelli shows off some impressive martial arts skills in a couple of lengthy fights that even the Hong Kong guys could appreciate.

“Ultimatum” was produced and written by Luc Besson, and is directed by Patrick Alessandrin, who opens the film with some groovy camerawork to set up the current state of District 13. The rest of the film see-saws between gritty (the District 13 gangs are violent and intimidating) to silly action movie conventions (Damien and Leito take on the French cops about once every five minutes, or so it seems), with some great stunt work across the board. Of course, as with the first movie, “Ultimatum” is sold on the physical prowess of its two leading men, which Alessandrin shows off with great aplomb in the film’s ridiculous series of action sequences, all the while keeping Besson’s script moving along at a brisk enough pace to keep it from killing the flow of the action. The sequel actually has a higher martial arts quotient than the first one, with a nice balance of featured parkour stunts by Belle and physical ass kicking by Raffaelli.

“Martial Law” Sammo Hung movie watch and torrent

The title character, Sammo Law, portrayed by Sammo Hung, was a Chinese law officer and martial arts expert who came to Los Angeles in search of a colleague and remains in the US.

The cast endured turnover from the beginning. Detective Dana Dickson (played by Tammy Lauren) exited the show after Episode 06: “Extreme Measures” as she moved away to live with “her parents” as noted on the following episode, Episode 07: “Trackdown”. Then on Episode 09: “How Sammo Got His Groove Back”, Arsenio Hall joined the cast as Terrell Parker, a wisecracking former LAPD press liaison who began helping out Sammo and the gang on cases. The pairing of Hung and Hall as partners was similar to, albeit a bit less overtly comedic than, the partnership between Sammo’s friend, Jackie Chan, and Chris Tucker in the Rush Hour feature films. At the end of the Episode 05: “Cop Out”, when Sammo Law is driving through Los Angeles, a sign is seen which advertises Rush Hour, as the movie was released at the time of the episode.

New executive producers Lee Goldberg & William Rabkin took the helm at the beginning of the second season due to runaway production costs. They more or less pretended that the first season did not exist, retaining only the basic concept of a fish-out-of-water detective. Cast members Louis Mandylor and Tom Wright were dropped. Gretchen Egolf was brought in to play the unit’s new leader, Amy Dylan, from the beginning of Season 2. Additionally, Parker’s past in public relations was scrapped. The first season’s cliffhanger ending was explained away with a few throwaway lines.

Law made crossover appearances on episodes of Early Edition and Walker, Texas Ranger, the former preceding it and the latter following it in its Saturday time slot. Chuck Norris’s Walker character, Cordell Walker, also made an appearance as part of the two-part Martial Law/Walker, Texas Ranger crossover.

Overheard Plot
A major stock exchange in the world, Hong Kong attracts not only money but any who try to manipulate the market. At the Hong Kong Police Force Commercial Crime Bureau, an operation is underway to infiltrate a trading company, Feng Hua International where a man, nicknamed “Boss” is the chief suspect.

The team, led by Inspector Leung (Lau Ching Wan) together with Yeung (Louis Koo) and Lam (Daniel Wu) install interception devices to monitor the company’s communications. When a crucial information on a surging share were intercepted, a moment of greed led the team in a cross fire between the Bureau and the boss.

Overheard (traditional Chinese: 竊聽風雲; simplified Chinese: 窃听风云; pinyin: Qie Ting Feng Yun; Cantonese Yale: Sit Teng Fung Wan) is a 2009 Hong Kong crime thriller film written and directed by Alan Mak and Felix Chong, and produced by Henry Fong and Derek Yee. The film stars Lau Ching-Wan, Louis Koo and Daniel Wu as a trio of police officers conducting surveillance on a listed company. The film was released theatrically in Hong Kong on 30 July 2009.

By now Jackie Chan has produced almost twice as many duds as he has classics, so it seems that this gangster flick, set in the mean streets of 1990s Tokyo, is his most earnest attempt at redemption to date.

Gone are the trademark gape-mouthed expressions and slapstick chop-socky fight scenes – here he channels Scarface and Goodfellas (and a whole repertoire of gangster clichés) in a story about underclass Chinese immigrants burrowing deep into the Yakuza underworld.

In this flick Chan has no discernable kung fu skills, but true to form, he depicts his character as a hapless badass (in one scene he single-handedly fends off a gang of thugs attempting to mug Fan Bingbing).

Daniel Wu plays his homie above all homies in a ragtag crew of fellow Mainlanders who survive and thrive by scamming pachinko parlors and luxury good stores. Xu Jinglei is Love Interest Number One – the prototypical Dongbei country girl who eventually ends up a Yakuza mistress – and the aforementioned Fan Bingbing plays Love Interest Number Two, a “hooker with a heart of gold” whose romantic interest in our hero get dashed in a gut wrenchingly cheesy scene that hearkens back to the sappiest of 1980s Hong Kong cinema. downplays kung fu theatrics in favor of guns, knives and a storyline with a subtly nationalistic bent. This is not a terrible film, but it still leaves much to be desired. For one (and typical of a lot of Hong Kong cinema), it’s laden with derivative clichés – particularly with the “insistent cop” (Takenaka Naoto) and the bit where Daniel Wu’s character morphs into a tortured villain à la Heath Ledger’s Joker. The gangsters are suitably menacing, but Xu Jinglei’s goody-two-shoes, debonaire Yakuza husband (Mayasa Kato) is completely ludicrous (especially compared to Jack Kao’s convincing portrayal of a rival Taiwan-born gangster, one of the baddest characters in the film).
